| This is one of the actual Electro-shock Therapy frequency generators for Danvers State Hospital Insane Asylum. Electro-shock therapy was developed by Ugo Cerletti. Cerletti had observed pigs being stunned with electricity to ease the process of their slaughter, and this led him to apply the technique to mental illness. Current is applied to the brain while the patient is sedated, inducing grand-mal seizure in the patient. The aim is to change a persons brainwave patters and inversely, their behavior. Many poor soul's speech would be be altered, or perhaps they would end up institutionalized. If you have ever seen the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" then you have witnessed what the effects can be like. This machine was thrown out with the trash when Danvers State was demolished. | ||
