| Atop the cupola on the administrative
building of Metropolitan State Hospital still shines the golden weather vane.
Met State was built to house the growing number of mentally ill people from the
Metropolitan Boston area in the 20's. However the feeling was that perhaps the
site should be close to, but located outside of the Boston city limits. No
expense was spared building the lush facility which housed its own bowling
alley, movie theater, recreational therapy department, medical building, and
morgue. Like Danvers State Hospital it is currenly being demolished to make way
for apartments. |
